In England, bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer, yet embarrassment and stigma still prevent people from talking about symptoms or completing screening tests.

In October last year, working with both NHS South East London Cancer Alliance and NHS RM Partners Cancer Alliance, we launched two bold, behaviour-led campaigns: “Don’t Wipe Away the Signs” and “Don’t Wipe Away the Hidden Signs.” The objective was simple but powerful: start conversations that save lives. By reframing a routine, everyday moment as a prompt for action, the campaigns transformed symptom awareness and screening participation into something urgent, relatable and impossible to ignore.

The work combined special build-out-of-home, underground, and bus takeovers, targeted paid social, intent-driven search, digital audio, community radio, grassroots partnerships, and culturally relevant activations during Diwali.

By turning silence into conversation and awareness into measurable action, this campaign demonstrated how creative bravery, cultural intelligence and data-led planning can drive meaningful public health change.
