IAB Introduces New Video Signals

Introducing Updated Video Signals

To address the growing complexity of the programmatic ecosystem, the IAB Tech Lab's Programmatic Supply Chain Working Group has developed new video signals.

Video Ad Categories

  • Instream Video Ads: These ads are integrated into video content that the user has chosen to watch, playing before, during, or after the video. They typically have sound enabled by default.

  • Accompanying Content Ads: These ads appear within video content but aren't the primary focus. They often autoplay with sound off and are placed within articles or alongside other content.

  • Standalone or No Content Video Ads: These ads play independently, without accompanying video content. They are usually sound-off by default and begin playing upon user interaction or when in view. Examples include in-banner or in-feed videos.

  • Interstitial Ads: These full-screen ads appear at natural transition points within content, especially in mobile apps. They capture the user's full attention and are usually non-skippable.
